Even though I work primarily as a painter, I was invited to Tokyo Wonder Site to research Japanese textiles. I began in Aoyama today and visited Morita, an antique store that specializes in dyed textiles.

I looked through the piles of remnants and purchased a small square of fabric from the Taisho Period (1912-1926). I spoke with Tadashi Morita, the owner of the store, and he told me that the fabric was from the undergarment of a man’s winter kimono. Mr. Morita was very kind and invited me back to talk more about textiles.
